Movement is a great way to get in touch with your body, release stress, and feel vibrant and alive. But for many of us, traditional methods of exercise and “working out” can feel boring or unexciting at best, and triggering at worst.
In honor of Love Your Body Month, we’re celebrating all of the playful, light-hearted, intuitive ways we move our bodies. Do you have any to add?
Have a solo dance party in your bedroom.
Sign up for a movement class that piques your interest: any form of dance, martial arts, tai chi, fencing… all the better if it doesn’t fall under the traditional “exercise” umbrella.
Take a walk with a friend or family member and use the time to have a heart-to-heart.
Play with your pet — get goofy!
Go for a nature hike and be mindful of the beautiful scenery all around you.
Roll up your sleeves and bust out some household chores. Bonus points for scrubbing the tub with a fun music playlist.
Devote half an hour to stretching. Forget about what traditional yoga poses look like and spend time stretching areas of the body that need extra lovin'.
Find a jungle gym and remember what it’s like to be 6 years old. Hello, monkey bars!
Sign up for a charity walk connected to an organization that speaks to you. It’s also a great way to meet like-minded people with the same values.
Ride a bike (don’t forget the helmet), but don’t track distance or time. Just enjoy the scenery and the breeze on your skin.
